The Haslam Memorial Foundation was created in memory of Richard W. Haslam and its mission is to support youth programs in and around the town of East Haddam, Connecticut.
Mr. Haslam was one of the first members of Fox Hopyard Golf Club and a member of its Men’s Club. A native of Bar Harbor, Maine, Richard moved to Connecticut and graduated from Westbrook High School where he was a stand-out athlete in baseball, basketball, and soccer.
He had the option of becoming a professional baseball player and a professional bowler in the late 1960s.
Richard loved serving his community. He was an elected constable for the Town of East Haddam from 1972 to 1984. During his time as constable, he developed many youth service activities and encouraged the town to create a youth services bureau. He coached numerous sporting teams, his favorite being baseball for the East Haddam-Moodus Little League. In 2004, he established and began operating Haslam Fiberglass Repair which continues to be very successful.
